Best Romantic Bar, August 2009

Our city’s most intimate bars are inevitably those lucky enough to have attached themselves to survivors of Hollywood’s golden age: Musso & Frank Grill and the Smoke House, the Hotel Bel-Air and the Langham Huntington in Pasadena. While these spots are fabulously frozen in time—like the moment you realized you were made for each other—The Prince bar and restaurant is more hidden, which has you feeling more lovey. The Prince began life as the Windsor bar and restaurant, on the ground floor of a 1927 faux Tudor apartment building around the corner from the Ambassador Hotel. The establishment features limey kitsch: red Naugahyde booths, courtier-shaped table lamps, crimson stained glass, miniature suits of armor. It’s all gold and red and slightly clandestine, and nothing about the decor was altered when the Prince became a Korean nightspot in the early 1990s. Couples now enjoy their Hite beer, kimchi, and fried chicken in the same intimate space.
