Best Inline Skating Not at the Beach, August 2008
Wide ribbons of oak-and-willow-shaded cement meander for miles through the urban park at Santa Fe Dam, providing paths for skaters of all abilities. The bordering lawns won’t ruin the wheel bearings of clumsy inliners. During the summer, when the sun blazes, the park’s 70-acre lake is open for a post-skate swim. The recreation area feeds into the smoothly paved San Gabriel River Trail, a 37-mile route along the 605 freeway. Adventurous skaters can use it to reach other nearby green spaces such as Whittier Narrows, a few miles down the trail.
