Best Lodge Revamp, August 2009
Ever since Tyler Cassity, the Missourian who has made Hollywood Forever Cemetery a pop culture phenomenon, turned over restoration of the 1931 Masonic Lodge on the site to high school friend Jay Boileau, crews have been uncovering finery: Moorish detailing on the wood ceiling, patterned beech floors, and baroque ornamentation around a fireplace. Boileau is now booking comedy shows and music groups and staging plays in the space, morphing it into one of the most spectacular entertainment venues in the city. Recently tickets sold out in 30 minutes for a performance by the one-man band Iron & Wine. The lodge is available for rentals: Think birthdays, weddings, or simply communing with ghosts.
