Best Vintage Movie Posters, May 2007
Hard to believe, but 50 years ago there was a bustling bookstore district on Hollywood Boulevard. Pickwick, Satyr, and Cherokee are long gone, but Larry Edmunds Bookshop has survived and thrived by specializing in the ephemeral images of movie publicity. Early noirs and black westerns are among the thousands of posters and lobby cards from a century of film that line the walls. (The store also stocks more than half-a-million movie stills, in case you’re feeling ambitious.) The crack staff of obsessive cineasts understand the difference between a teaser one-sheet and a Belgian affiche, and they’ll send you on your way for less than the cost of a night at the movies.
