Best Supper Club, November 2006
Catalina Bar & Grill in Hollywood is fabulous and attracts a stellar lineup, and the Jazz Bakery in Culver City is edgy and reliable. But for the whole supper club package, Vibrato Grill Jazz in Bel-Air is where it’s at: There’s a sophisticated menu (think osso buco, figs stuffed with Humboldt Fog goat cheese and prosciutto, yellowtail sashimi), a sleek granite and wood decor by interior designer Clodagh, and some of the country’s best jazz talents onstage. Owned by Herb Alpert, the eight-time Grammy-winning trumpet player, producer, and A&M honcho, and Pasadena restaurateurs Gregg and Bob Smith, the space has custom acoustics, so the music is crisp but unobtrusive. Sunday brunch is next up, proving that it’s always time for supper.
