Best Literary Salon, August 2012

F. Scott Fitzgerald drank here. So did Faulkner, Fante, Bukowski, Chandler, Saroyan, Huxley, and Isherwood. It seems like every notable writer in L.A. has hung out at Musso & Frank Grill. The vintage steak house makes a letter-perfect backdrop for the LAVA Salon, a quarterly reading series presented by the Los Angeles Visionaries Association. Local writers and thinkers lead discussions of our city's peculiar literary past—a history of men and women trying to preserve their integrity amid the lure of Hollywood riches. Even at a pricey $100 per ticket, which includes dinner and dessert, seats sell out fast. You're on your own for drinks, but so were Fitzgerald and friends.
