Best Car Museum, August 2012
If you want to learn about car culture, go to the Petersen. If you want to appreciate the fine art of automotive design, the Nethercutt has you covered. If you want to understand why cars end up in museums in the first place, motor to the Automobile Driving Museum in El Segundo, where docents take guests for a Sunday spin in one of the 130 restored vehicles from the collection. The converted warehouse has cars on loan from Hot Rod magazine and a life-size Hot Wheels from Mattel. Select a convertible and feel the ocean breeze on a quiet back road, but try not to make the Indy 500 look like a Roman chariot race.
