Drago Centro

Best Private Dining Room, August 2014

We want a private dining room for the space, the intimacy, and maybe a flat-screen TV to view our wedding anniversary montage—but we don’t want to feel cut off from the city. At Drago Centro the reinforced concrete of the former bank vault creates a sense of security, but the buzz of downtown permeates the floor-to-ceiling windows. Sleek and modernist, the long room with space for 26 seated guests (55 in a cocktail layout) and an optional open kitchen allows seclusion but not isolation. Chef Ian Gresik borrows from the Italian canon to craft a cuisine that’s at once robust and aware of the requirements of a downtown crowd. Spaghetti strands dotted with truffle butter twirl upward; morsels of roasted suckling pig are bite size. If people are slow to leave, it’s not because of the density of the walls but the conviviality the room inspires.
