While most beef jerkies are a masticating challenge, the South African version, called biltong, is closer to delicately aged lunchmeat than tough, leathery nuggets. Hanging in mouth-watering hunks behind the counter at European Deluxe Sausage Kitchen on Olympic Boulevard, the biltong is cured in-house and sliced to order (we recommend leaving the fat on).
