The Del Monte holds the distinction of having been a real speakeasy, complete with bootlegger tunnels and a grocery store decoy, which is now the Townhouse bar. Low tin ceilings and crimson flocked walls form the backdrop for bearded men in their thirties nursing historically accurate drinks while waiting for the music to start. Novena Carmel, Sly Stone’s daughter, has made this one of the Westside’s best venues, booking acts like the Mars Volta and Feist. Good tip: “Jazz Flight Tuesdays” features spirit flights and no cover. » 52 Windward Ave., townhousevenice.com.
