Finally, a meal—a good one—with a view

L.A. is blessed with some seriously stunning vistas, but you wouldn’t know it from sitting at our view-averse restaurants. A few of this year’s new arrivals are changing that by serving top-notch food with a panorama to match. Perch (448 S. Hill St.) is, as the name implies, set on the roof of a downtown building-turned-loft complex. With coq au vin and a glass of burgundy, diners can gaze upon Bunker Hill, the Biltmore Hotel, and a few dozen loft dwellers getting dressed across the way. (We kid, of course.) In Venice newcomer Larry’s (24 Windward Ave.) is as close as you’ll get to slugging back a craft beer on the beach. Located 50 feet from the strand, the patio is ideal for watching the sunset with a thin-crust pizza or a braised lamb shank from chef Brendan Collins. A twinkling, 360-degree cityscape is the evening’s entertainment at the Hotel Wilshire’s the Roof on Wilshire (6317 Wilshire Blvd.), where patrons can try Eric Greenspan’s small plates—like BBQ pork steam buns—by the glow of a pool.
