It’s that time of year: Some of the biggest names in the restaurant world are gearing up to debut their fall blockbusters. From Chinese seafood in Beverly Hills to Austrian street snacks downtown, we’ve got exactly what upcoming eateries you get excited about now.

The Gadarene Swine
The sophomore effort from Phillip Lee—chef of Beverly Hill’s Scratch Bar—will be located inside the oddball cottage space that was once Eggplant in Studio City. In spite of the name, Lee will focus on a vegetable-centric menu that skips over most animal products. Vegan or otherwise, adventurous diners will probably find something to pique their interest here.
Expected Opening: Early September

Newport Seafood
The luxurious SGV seafood restaurant is landing in the heart of Beverly Hills’s restaurant row, serving pan-Asian (but mostly Chinese) fare that centers around high-end seafood dishes like pan-fried crab and lobster with lots of garlic and spice. Don’t expect the menu to be as vast as the one in San Gabriel, but expect the service and decor to be just as—if not more—flashy.

Eagle Rock Brewery Public House
Debuting in the former Fatty’s on Colorado Boulevard, the team from Eagle Rock Brewery is almost finished with its new brewpub and restaurant. Owners Jeremy Raub and Ting Su recruited former Son of a Gon chef Jerry Su to run the kitchen, meaning you should expect a menu that’s much more ambitious than the usual gastropub fare (plus lots of special release beers for pairing).

Love & Salt
The owners of now-closed Manhattan Beach classic Café Pierre are teaming up with chef Michael Fiorelli (mar’sel at Terranea) to produce a new concept in the former Café Pierre space, which the folks involved say will serve “Italian comfort with a SoCal sensibility,” including housemade bread and pasta, nose-to-tail butchery, and an expansive wine list spearheaded by owner Guy Gabriele.

Pistola
Italian restaurant vets Vic Casanova of Gusto and Seth Glassman of RivaBella are launching a new Italian steakhouse in the former AOC space on West 3rd St. The throwback-inspired menu will make good use of the kitchen’s wood-burning oven, while diners can enjoy a full bar and second story patio will retractable roof.

EggSlut Ramen & Oyster Gourmet
Two big concepts are due to premiere in the already-booming Grand Central Market in the near future. The first is chef Alvin Cailan’s new ramen-centric offshoot of EggSlut, which will serve egg-topped mazemen noodles. The second is the long-awaited Oyster Gourmet, a oyster and wine bar headed by bivalve expert Christophe Happillon. There are also unconfirmed rumors that Brooklyn chef Sara Kramer might be looking to open a falafel shop within the market as well.
Expected Opening: Late September/Early October

Stir Market
Partner and chef Jet Tila is part of the team behind this massive 4,000-square foot Beverly Boulevard space, which promises to be “a modern California take on the classic European food hall experience,” complete with an artisan bakery, market salad station, charcuterie and cheese station, rotisserie, wine and craft beer bar, espresso bar and more.
Expected Opening: Early October

Mexicano/Flautas
La Casita Mexicana chefs Ramiro Arvizu and Jaime Martin Del Campo are opening two concepts within the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Center, one a fast-food concept specializing in flautas, and the other more ambitious restaurant that will serve “twists on traditional Mexican dishes,” according to a release, and feature a full bar and patio.
Expected Opening: Early October

Le Comptoir
Gary Menes’s critically acclaimed pop-up has found a permanent home inside Koreatown’s Normandie Hotel, where he’ll bring back his highly seasonal tasting menues served counterside out of an open kitchen. As for produce, Menes will be making good use out his private farm in Long Beach.
Expected Opening: October

Pete’s Café
The rise of downtown’s 4th and Main Streets as a dining destination continues: Orsa & Winston chef Josef Centeno will be revamping the menu and space at all-day restaurant Pete’s Café. Expect the menu to feature Centeno’s take on classic American cuisine—breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Expected Opening: October

Redbird
The wait has been long for this highly-anticipated restaurant located in the former rectory of the St. Vibiana Cathedral, but given the building’s historic past construction was no easy feat. The all-star lineup includes chef Neal Fraser and his wife Amy Knoll Fraser, restaurateur Bill Chait, and bartender Julian Cox. Inside the 140-seat dining room you’ll find a menu serving Fraser’s unique style of elegant and comforting cuisine.

Cordoba
Former Farmshop chef Joshua Drew is still manning the kitchens at Fifty Seven during his residency there, but afterward he’s due to land in Los Feliz to launch his Argentine-inspired restaurant with help from the Cardiff Giant group.

Fred at Barney’s
Located on the fifth floor of Barneys in Beverly Hills, this posh Mid-Century restaurant will turn out “modern Italian cuisine based on traditional classics with a California influence,” according to a press release. The kitchen will be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and will have a list of cocktails and wines sure to please shopaholic jet-setters.

Bierbeisl Imbiss
After closing Bierbeisl in Beverly Hills last year, chef Bernhard Mairinger is heading to Downtown’s Spring Street Arcade with Bierbeisl Imbiss, a more casual snack bar and bakery that will serve Austrian street food (expect sausage und schnitzel!) and sweet pastries. There will also be a bar serving espresso drinks, craft beer, and wine.
Expected Opening: Early November

Belcampo Santa Monica
The second L.A. outpost of Belcampo Meat Co.—the sustainable, humane farm and butcher out of Marin County—will open in Santa Monica soon, serving a full dinner menu and cocktails along with the lunch offerings found at Grand Central Market. If the weekend dinners served at the downtown location are any indication, Westside carnivores should be very excited.

Odys & Penelope
Karen and Quinn Hatfield are splitting the difference between the fine dining of Hatfield’s and the rustic casualness of Sycamore Kitchen with their new project, Odys & Penelope. Named after the Greek king and his wife in Homer’s Odyssey, the husband and wife chef duo will focus on wood fire-grilled meats, fish, and seasonal vegetables, all inspired by what their family cooks at home.
Expected Opening: November

Jon & Vinny’s
Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo are transforming the former Mr. Damiano on Fairfax into what they’re calling a “more approachable” restaurant space that will also house a wine shop and commissary kitchen. The name isn’t finalized, but this new endeavor looks to be a flagship opening for Shook and Dotolo.
Expected Opening: Late November/December
