Get Cozy: Five Restaurants with Amazing Fireplaces
Stay warm, L.A.
Folks from colder climates like to tease us for shivering at 50 degree temperatures, but we’re not crazy about bitterly cold winters anyway. One thing we can all agree on? There’s nothing like the comforting warmth and flickering glow of a fireplace. Here, we’ve rounded up five of our favorites, all inside some of L.A.’s finest dining rooms.
Cafe Del Rey: This bayside restaurant has a slick but serene fireplace in its back dining room; adjacent windows overlook the Marina. Feast on Chuck Abair’s casual California fare. Start with something light, like the seasonal Dungeness crab cakes with ruby red grapfruit. A bowl of Ciopinno—with bright and warming fennel and saffron—feels as cozy as the fire. 4451 Admiralty Way, Marina del Rey, 310-823-6395.
RivaBella: Parts of the inside of one of the Sunset Strip’s newest feel like a rustic farmhouse. The massive brick fireplace—located in the center of the main dining room, it’s impossible to miss—is a perfect place to enjoy a drink before dinner. Happy hour cocktails start at $5, which makes it easy to linger over more than one. 9201 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood, 310-278-2060.
The Villa: Resembling an old manor both outside and in, there are multiple hearths within. You’ll first come upon a double sided version, in the main dining area. Find another in nearby private dining rooms outfitted with leather sofas. Reserve in advance for parties of up to 12. 22160 Ventura Blvd., Woodland Hills, 818-704-1185.
The Griffin: It’s no secret that one of the reasons for this Los Feliz-based pub’s success is its fireplaces. They drop down, hobbit-like, into the dining room and cast an orange glow on everything—including the house-made potato chips (addictive) and $5 happy hour drinks (not terrible). 3000 Los Feliz Blvd., Atwater Village, 323-644-0444.
Eveleigh: Truth: walking in and getting a table here is still a struggle. But baby, when it’s cold outside, there’s nothing quite like a roaring fire. Make a reservation in advance and get ready to people-watch—everyone looks better in this light. The cocktails are among L.A.’s most notable. 8752 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood, 424-239-1630.
