There are excellent options for New Year’s Eve dinner all over town, but if you want to escape the tyranny of prix-fixe dining and needing a reservation, Republique is staying a la carte for the evening and seating walk-ins at communal tables and the bar. Walter and Margarita Manzke’s restaurant, which our critic Patric Kuh just named the No. 1 Best New Restaurant of 2014, will serve a special menu that will be unveiled that day and likely include the greatest hits. Think caviar, escargot, shellfish, charcuterie, cote de bouef, an expansive list of wine and Champagne, and one of Caroline On Crack’s most memorable cocktails of the year. Perhaps best of all: It’s hard to imagine a better last bite in 2015 than desserts like Republique’s warm brioche bomboloni with hazelnut gelato, pictured on the cover of our magazine’s January issue.
Republique, 624 S. La Brea Ave. Los Angeles, 310-362-6115. If you don’t want to take a chance on walking in, Table8, which charges for prime-time reservations, has New Year’s Eve tables available at Republique.
