A New York tradition finally comes to Los Angeles. The Best Fests—Dylan Fest, Petty Fest, or Stones Fest—are a series of annual shows that have been equal parts concert and celebration, where all the proceeds benefit the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund. Tomorrow and Thursday night at the El Rey, the tradition comes to Los Angeles for the first time with Petty Fest West, celebrating the classic rock anthems of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. There are plenty of songs to choose from in Petty’s impressive 30-year career.
The list of musical acts is almost as long. It includes Cabin Down Below Band and special guest stars Patrick Carney of The Black Keys, Nick Valensi and Fabrizio Moretti of The Strokes, Sarah Silverman, Matt Sorum & Ace Harper, Jesse Malin, Ryan Miller of Guster, Petter Ericson Stakee of Alberta Cross and many more surprises. No word on whether Petty himself will make a cameo, but we’re hoping to see him (maybe in disguise) weaving through the crowd. After all, it’s good to be king.
