You may know Shakespeare’s tale of young lovers prevented from coupling up by their warring families, but you’ve probably never seen it like this: in a dinner theater-meets-cabaret setting with Rumer Willis as doomed Juliet.

Musical theatre series For the Record returns tonight to Rockwell Table & Stage with its latest production, a show devoted to the movies of Baz Luhrmann. They’ve done shows paying homage to all sorts of directors: Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, the Coen brothersJohn Hughes, and others. They’ve already done a tribute to the Australian director’s works, but for this new adaptation they’ve added The Great Gatsby to a mashup that includes Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet, and Strictly Ballroom. Attendees of the show—which runs through October 19 at Rockwell Table & Stage—can sip on themed cocktails while performers dressed as Gatsby, Daisy, Christian, and Satine weave through the tables singing soundtrack hits like “Lady Marmalade.”

As with many L.A. theater productions, the cast is made up of vaguely familiar faces from Broadway and television, perhaps the most recognizable of them being Willis. Bruce Willis and Demi Moore’s eldest stepped in after the actress originally cast as Juliet landed a gig playing the young Samantha on the CW’s Sex and the City prequel, The Carrie Diaries.

Rockwell Table & Stage: 1714 N. Vermont Ave., Los Feliz. For tickets, visit Rockwell L.A.’s website.
