Netflix is about to take us back. Back before a time when a group of campers were stuck in the ropes course. Before we needed to make eight gallons of bug juice by snack hour despite not knowing where the powder packets were. Before the Eagles took that fateful journey on Moose River. Before we had to wipe that hotshot grin off our face lest it was shot off of us.
We’re going back to the first day of camp.
The teaser for Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp is finally here, and it’s all at once weird and retro and magical. Narrated by H. Jon Benjamin (the voice of the film’s sage Can of Vegetables), the clip utilizes crappy VHS vibes and an exquisitely terrible soundtrack to lure us back to Camp Firewood, where all of our favorite counselors (Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Amy Poehler, Janeane Garofalo, Joe Lo Truglio, Molly Shannon, Judah Friedlander, Michael Ian Black, Christopher Meloni, et al) are waiting to greet us. Things get a little saucy when a NSFW love scene from the movie interrupts the broadcast, something of a callout to WHAS’s trademark juxtaposition of good clean fun and good clean needles (which we’ll likely see more of in this eight-episode prequel).
Pack your bags—we’ll see you in macrame on July 31.
