The 2011 Academy Awards nominations have been announced

The list of nominees for the 83rd annual Academy Award Show was announced Tuesday morning in Beverly Hills. The King’s Speech, the period film starring Colin Firth, leads the pack with 12 nominations, including best actor, best director, and best motion picture. True Grit follows close behind with 10 nominations.

Nominees for best motion picture include box-office hits like The Social Network and Disney’s Toy Story 3, along with smaller productions like the psychological thriller Black Swan

This year’s acting noms recognize Natalie Portman (Black Swan), Christian Bale (The Fighter) and Jeff Bridges (True Grit).

At age 14, True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld is this year’s youngest nominee and is up for best supporting actress. 

Mark Wahlberg’s The Fighter received multiple nominations as well, though Wahlberg did not receive a nod for his starring role in the film.

Other snubs included Black Swan actress Mila Kunis, who was also left out the running for best supporting actress, and Ryan Gosling, who was expected to be nominated for his leading role in Blue Valentine.

Academy Award-winning actress Mo’Nique announced the nominations for the show, which will be held at the Kodak Theater on February 27.
