Ask Chris: Prestige Parking’s Big Payout
Did Sohrab Sahab ever cough up the $65 million he skimmed in city taxes?
Q: I heard that one of the big downtown parking lot operators never turned in millions he collected as a city tax. Did he ever pay up?
A: It’s nice to tip parking attendants, but Sohrab Sahab took it to the next level at his parking lot operation, Prestige Parking. He skimmed the 10 percent city tax (and other fees) for years, to the tune of $65 million. In 2011, he was sentenced to 525 days and ordered to pay the money back. He served two months, and his reparation was cut to $700,000.
