Metro Sets Record With $ 4.2 Billion Budget
New and enhanced rail lines are at the core of the Metropolitan Transit Authority’s biggest budget ever.
The large budget includes $50 million for developing the “Subway to the Sea,” the Westside continuation of the Purple line, which currently ends in the middle of Koreatown. Dubbed one of Metro’s priority projects, it would serve Miracle Mile, Beverly Hills, Century City, and Westwood, making an easier commute for many who are tired of being stuck on the 10 and 405 freeways.
Additional projects include $22 million in operational funds for the Expo line, scheduled to open in November, which connects downtown L.A. to Culver City, as well as funds for construction of the second phase of the Expo line, the Crenshaw line, the Regional Connector, and an Orange line extension.
Don’t fret. According to the MTA, this year’s budget does not have an operating deficit. Recent cutbacks in lines and operation hours allowed the budget to be balanced.
