The Hollywood Sign Gets A Makeover
Talk about a brush-up. This week the Hollywood Sign Trust and Sherwin-Williams announced the completion of a nine-week long refurbishing project to restore the appearance of the Hollywood Sign. The job, which included stripping, pressure-washing, scraping, sanding, priming, and painting each of the sign’s nine letters, took a whopping 3,000 man hours to finish. Here’s a short list of what else went into the icon’s makeover:
255 gallons of paint and 105 gallons of primer, custom-made swing-stage scaffolding that stretched up to 39 feet wide, and an average of 7 painters working on the project at a time.
So, how does it look? “It looked beautiful. It looked bright,” says city councilman Tom LaBonge, who saw the sign up close at a press event this morning. “It looked like Mayor Villaraigosa’s whitest smile!”
