The Los Angeles River Recreation Zone is Open!

The movement to revitalize the Los Angeles River is flowing! The L.A. River Pilot Recreational Zone, a two-and-a-half-mile stretch of the waterway between Fletcher Drive and Steelhead Park downtown, where it is legal to walk, bike, fish, and kayak without a permit, opened to the public over the weekend. “It’s been since the ‘30s when someone could come and legally recreate in the river,” said Santa Monica Conservancy executive director Joe Edmiston, who hosted a ribbon-cutting event at the site Monday. The zone will remain open from sunrise to sunset, seven days a week, through Labor Day.
