Road Blocked: Oscar and Spirit Award Show Street Closures To Know of Now
Planning on heading to the Westside or Hollywood this award show-filled weekend? Here’s the run-down on which routes to avoid.
With both the Spirit Awards and the Oscars taking place this weekend, the city will be full of glitz and glamor. For the average Angeleno, that means one thing: extra traffic.
The Film Independent Spirit Awards take place Saturday afternoon. While no roads will be closed for the annual event, Santa Monica historically gets congested. We recommend avoid the Pico Boulevard-Ocean Avenue intersection, as well as the streets surrounding Casa del Mar and Shutters (the award show is held in a tent on the beach nearby).
To accommodate the Oscars, Hawthorn Alley will be closed from Orange Drive to Highland Avenue until early Monday morning. Orange Drive will also be closed from Hawthorn Avenue to Hollywood Boulevard.
Both the northbound and southbound 101 exits at Highland will be blocked off. And, if you plan on taking Hollywood by foot, expect restricted access on streets that end at or intersect with either Hollywood Blvd. or Highland Avenue. Sidewalks around the Dolby Theatre will be closed off to pedestrians as well.
