The Campaign: Will Ferrell Gets Into the L.A. Mayoral Race

Actor Will Ferrell can add another credit to his IMDB profile: political ad for L.A. mayoral candidate Eric Garcetti. In an endorsement posted to YouTube today, the Anchorman star, looking like Ron Burgundy dressed as Chas Tenenbaum, shares his reasons for supporting Garcetti, who he recalls meeting in the hospital when they were each only “one day old.” Among other successes, Ferrell credits Garcetti with inspiring the dance battle film Breakin' 2 Electric Boogaloo and writing the song “Let’s Get Physical.” He’s kidding—entirely, we think. But “free waffles every Tuesday morning for the whole city of Los Angeles”? We wish.

Garcetti isn’t the only candidate getting support from Hollywood bigwigs. Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and David Geffen have reportedly contributed $150,000 to what’s being called an independent expenditure committee developing ads for candidate Wendy Greuel (who is herself a former Dreamworks executive). Kevin Roderick has more on this and Greuel’s recent West Hollywood fund-raiser at Los Angeles Observed.
