You Can’t Eat the Sunshine is a weekly podcast series produced by Kim Cooper and Richard Schave in which the Esotouric founders talk with L.A. personalities about the city’s myths, contradictions, and inspirations.

This week, Richard and Kim discuss the closing of the city's oldest book shop as it turns the big one-oh-four. They talk to Mona Leirich of the German-American Cultural Institute about the incredible life of Lion Feuchtwanger, who escaped the Nazis and found literary fame after seeking refuge in the Pacific Palisades. Our hosts also hear from historian and character actress, Marcia Harris, who portrays firebrand activist, Fanny Bixby Spencer, when she gives tours of Rancho Los Cerritos.

In this exclusive clip, Harris gives a taste of her (convincing) act as Ms. Spencer and also shares how her experiences with nature on the ranch have affected her ideas about pacifism. Leirich provides insight on how to throw a successful intellectual dinner party at the Villa Aurora. Hint: promise your guests apple strudel.
