LA Tourism is celebrating this week’s ruling on DOMA and Prop 8 (and this month’s Pride festivities) in a very appropriate way: with an LGBT walking tour itinerary.

Discover LGBT Los Angeles,” the newest route created as part of the Car Free LA initiative, features nine stops all over the city that are significant to L.A.’s gay history: El Pueblo Historical Monument, Merced Theatre, City Hall, Klyt Bath House, The Millennium Biltmore Hotel, One National Gay And Lesbian Archive, The Village at Ed Gould Plaza, Celebration Theatre, and One Archives Gallery and Museum. The route covers a total of 24.5 miles—pretty ambitious for even the most seasoned stroller. LA Tourism recommends utilizing the metro in addition to your own two feet (lest you’d like to nurse blisters in the days after your trek).

While the Discover LGBT Los Angeles tour was intended to be self-guided, there are options for folks who prefer a bit more structure. Out & About Tours, Hollywood’s only gay tourism company, has partnered with the Tourism and Convention board to provide guided tours or the same itinerary (still car free). Or, you could nix the whole walking thing and opt for a minibus and A/C on one of Out & About’s driving tours—consider their SunGay Brunch excursion (we scoped the site, and it sounds like something that should be on everyone’s immediate to-do list).
