Los Angeles Magazine’s 50th Anniversary

We’re 50, and while we’ve had a few nips and tucks and redesigns over the years, we’re proud of our age and threw a BIG bash celebrating the past and the future. Our 5900 Wilshire office lobby (and the surrounding area) transformed into one helluva bash for more than 400 folks representing every industry in this city. Who stopped by? Two mayoral candidates—Wendy Greuel and City Councilmember Jan Perry; 50 LA Stories contribs (December 2010 issue) Jenna and Bodhi Elfman, George Takei, A. Scott Berg, Evan Kleiman, and Dean Zanuck. Political doyenne Roz Wyman, KCRW GM  Jennifer Ferro, Tasting Kitchen chef Richard Zarate, Courage Campaign founder Rick Jacobs, County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, New York Times Los Angeles bureau chief Adam Nagourney, developer Wayne Ratkovich, DJ Rodney Bingenheimer, designer Syd Mead and many, many more also popped in! Chef John Sedlar provided updated classic L.A. grub, Cadillac parked one of its vintage rides outside (and the newbies) and the Montage BH’s Richard Ruskell (from The Food Network’s Last Cake Standing) created a confection that was almost too great to cut into pieces (we did). Kathryn Scott Miller, the wife of the magazine’s founder Geoff Miller (who sadly died a few months prior) dropped by to check out the decades worth of covers before Councilmember Perry unfurled a proclamation. The 2061 Future Lounge featured a time capsule (yea, we’re burying it!), a gallery of future covers by artists like Mead, Charles Phoenix and Jim Heimann; a Theremin player (you’d know it if you heard it) and a psychic. Music students from The Harmony Project serenaded everyone on their way in with their clarinets. Whew. Too much bubbly. Here’s to Future Memories!
