Q: The city’s palm tree stumps look like they were chopped at a 45-degree angle. Why is that?
A: Those wood wedges are memorials to a hacked street services budget. When a palm grows into power lines, the Department of Water & Power lops off most of the tree, with the remains to be ground up by the Urban Forestry Division. So kids won’t play on the stump, the utility company came up with this tilted solution.
