What ever happened to the goose of Echo Park Lake?

Q: There was a goose living at Echo Park Lake. Did it return after the renovation?

A: More than 70 species of birds can be found at the lake, but that Toulouse goose, named Maria, was its most famous resident. When the lake was drained in 2011, then-councilman Eric Garcetti asked the Los Angeles Zoo to look after the creature, which was best known for bonding with a local retiree, Dominic Ehrler. A check-up revealed that Maria was a Mario, and the bird was given a new home at the Winnick Family Children’s Zoo. Ehrler regularly visits his fowl friend.
