Los Angeles Legalizes Murals

After years of debate, the city of Los Angeles has lifted a ban on murals painted on private property. From the monumental works of Kent Twitchell, to Chicano pride dioramas of the 1970’s, to the MOCA exhibit on street art, L.A. is renowned as a center of outdoor painting, but since 2001 it’s all been done guerilla style. “Now we can begin,” said councilmember Jose Huizar, who spent five years on the effort. “To re-affirm our claim as the ‘Mural Capital of the World.’”
