Q: What’s up with the beautiful (but gated) park around the Rowena Reservoir? Is it true only neighborhood residents can enter by using a special key?
A: I’ve jimmied open this myth: That ain’t a park. “I don’t even have a key!” says Councilman Tom LaBonge about access to this urban paradise. The ten fenced acres at Rowena and Hyperion avenues hold 10 million gallons of drinking water in a tank that’s under a shallow decorative lake. According to the DWP, keeping the area off-limits protects the water supply, but LaBonge tells me he’s looking into starting walking tours.
