Steve Jobs didn’t need license plates, why should your Ferrari?

Q: I often see exotic sports cars around town without license plates. Is that legal?

A: Pricey wheels usually stay plate free because custom drilling a license holder into the bumper is expensive and can devalue a fancy ride. Until recently drivers could go with dealer plates for six months, but new legislation has narrowed that window to three. To keep things on the up-and-up, high-end motorists can always pull a Steve Jobs: The late Apple cofounder would routinely lease and return a new model just before the registration deadline.
