Barbra Streisand earned almost $100 million dollars on her last concert tour. She’s worked for civil rights and nuclear disarmament. She is a renowned art collector and Academy Award (Wow, she never won a Grammy?) winner, so why is the 70-year-old icon shilling for K-Mart in The Guilt Trip? The buddy road movie with Seth Rogen is mildly amusing and has a fun eat-against-the-clock scene inspired by a Route 66 landmark, but this product placement business is out of control and this picture is nowhere near sturdy enough to shoulder the burden. In addition to the K-Mart scene, Budget Rent-A-Car, J. Crew, M&M’s, The Gap, Costco, OSH, Amazon, Apple, Days Inn, Caesar’s Palace, HSN and the new Chevy Sonic…you know, the all-new hatchback for people who try new things, seek discovery and live life to the fullest are promoted… and I didn’t take notes! I’m all for capitalism, but if I wanted to go shopping on the big screen, I’d just fire up HSN. Ack, their devious plan worked!
