A Walker in L.A.: I’m Lovin’ It
One of the best things about walking through L.A., as opposed to driving, is the way it reframes your perspective of the city. When I first moved here I hated the predictable monotony of the landscape I saw through the car window: nail salon, fast food restaurant, gas station, repeat. But on foot, there’s something about how you encounter each element independently that allows you to find something special in even the most desolate of strip malls, like this scene I stumbled into when exiting the 2 bus in Hollywood the other day. The bright colors, the geometric shapes hovering in the air—it was like an animated music video from the ’80s. Yes, on foot, it’s possible to find beauty in the seating outside of a McDonald’s.
