Ask Chris: The City Explained

Question:  I buried a few small (dead) pets in a Japanese garden at a public park. Is this legal?
Chris:  You might want to break out that shovel again. The L.A. Municipal Code dictates: “No person shall bury any animal or fowl in the City except in an established cemetery.” There is no middle ground, so to speak. Next time you lose a furry friend, you can call the sanitation department, which will haul away Fluffy within 24 hours. A more dignified route would be to contact the Los Angeles Pet Memorial Park in Calabasas, whose staff will usher your pet over the rainbow bridge for a nominal fee.
