Jones was joined by her Parks and Recreation cast mates Amy Poehler, Jim O’Heir, and Retta. Also seated at one of Everleigh’s rustic picnic tables were Amy Adams, Emma Roberts, and Kristen Bell. Once they were served, seeing Adams, Roberts, and Jones stuffing their faces with ice cream sandwiches was awfully cute.

Co-host and Wantful founder John Poisson mentioned the IRC was started 80 years ago at the suggestion of Albert Einstein. Well now. I actually learned two things at this party: That Einstein was the impetus for a charity, and two, that Emma Roberts smokes. Before taking her seat she asked the girl sitting next to her if they should sit on the end so they could get up to smoke. The gifting site, Wantful, is neat. Even neater since the IRC is now included under the site's “Give Back” section. Wanful offers a selection of curated gifts, basically. You can give someone a goodie and they just log on and pick something out. The DJ spun 80’s tunes and everyone stuck around. A good time.

After 16 years of running around fundraisers, I will fess up to being the gal who sometimes leaves when Elton John sits down to sing Rocket Man…again. I may be hard to impress. So, when I say LACMA’s Art + Film Gala was the party of the year, you can take it to the bank. I showed up early to the museum’s second annual affair (this year honoring artist Ed Ruscha and director Stanley Kubrick) only to be given a handler aka someone to stick with me to make sure I wouldn’t bother folks with pesky questions. It could also be that I have been known to mention I’d like my $18 back from Robert Pattinson (who was there) for having to sit through the third Twilight movie. I PROMISE I really won’t do it. My handler was very nice, and unlike Disney who also gives you minders as well, not so burly. I got the scoop early on that Leo was filming in NY. This party was so chuck full with artists, muckities and celebs that it really didn’t matter that DiCaprio had better things to do. Here’s who showed up, some wearing fantastic ensembles (well, GUCCI was a sponsor!):

Celeb-types: Will Ferrell (minus his scraggly beard but he’s kept a Ron Burgundy mustache), Tom Hanks, Rosanna Arquette, Armie Hammer, Leonard Nimoy (all making their second stop on the museum gala circuit following the Hammer todo); Jennifer Aniston; Steven Spielberg, PSY, Drew Barrymore; Cameron Diaz; three Kubrick collaborators—Jack Nicholson, Malcolm McDowell and Ryan O’Neal; Diane Keaton; Florence Welch (who performed at dinner); Evan Rachel Wood (who sang during cocktails); Annette Bening, Warren Beatty, Jeremy Renner and Salma Hayek (I’ll run out of room if I mention them all…).

Artists: Doug Aitken, John Baldessari, Catherine Opie,Robert Irwin, Barbara Kruger, Bill Viola, Marnie Weber, Mark Grotjahn and Retna (among others).

Muckities: Terry Semel, Bob Iger, Brian Grazer (you could even tell it was him in the dark by the shadow of his spiky hair), Les Moonves, Darren Star, Jerry Bruckheimer, Colleen Bell, David C. Bohnett, Bryan Lourd, Lynda Resnick, Bob Daly, Francois-Henri Pinault, Hawk Koch, Dawn Hudson, Brad Grey and Zev Yaroslavsky (among others).

At cocktails all the hotties tried to angle next to Robert Pattinson who was oblivious and spent most of his time laughing with Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine (who may have been chosen for this affair given the “+” in the band’s name). Everyone got a snap in front of Chris Burden’s Urban Lights. Ellen Barkin wanted to take a classy pic and set her cigarette down before the photog snapped. It was also great to see so many fashion folk too: Anna Wintour (I did a double-take as she was minus her glasses), Monique Lhuillier plus Kate and Laura Mulleavy. One of the last to head up to the pavilion for dinner was Tom Hanks who hung out at the bar until the last moment, but once Jack Nicholson ambled up the walk it was time to mingle some more. Bravo Michael Govan and LACMA. In the end they raked in $3.5 mil.

Clooney finally agreed to belt out the “so good” section once he drained his glass of red wine, then took a few additional slugs from the bottle. The actor (who showed up with date Stacy Keibler) was honored at Barbara Davis’s bi-annual Carousel of Hope extravaganza. Davis’s event has raised over $80 million for the Children’s Diabetes Foundation over the last 35 years, an incredible feat in this town.

Jay Leno has been emceeing the to-do since its inception, and when Neil Diamond took to the stage to sing a long set, he joked, “When Barbara [Davis] proposes, she don’t get no no’ses.” Davis in turn joked about the singer. “He’s a great performer, and I sure do like his last name,” she said. Every time I attend this event, I find myself checking out Davis’s enormous diamond or pearl necklaces, which are pretty spectacular. Diamond took the opportunity to introduce his new wife,Katie McNeil, who is only about 30 years his junior. Not quite the Hollywood math of taking half the fella’s age and subtracting six, but close. Shirley MacLaine showed up to pinch-hit for Carl Reiner (who was ill but fine, Clooney said later), and introduced her pal George. “I was in the first Ocean’s movie,” she said, referring to Clooney’s Ocean’s Eleven flicks. “I was the drunk hooker falling off the car.” The party went into the wee hours, and the line for the goody bag had security.

Who else was at the Beverly Hilton bash? Sidney Poitier, Clive Davis, Jane Fonda, Julianne Hough, Quincy Jones, Joan Collins, Jerry Weintraub, Jerry Bruckheimer, Jay Leno, Smokey Robinson, Brad Grey, Berry Gordy, Carrie Ann Inaba, and all the fellas from KISS.

Each lady, along with someone to introduce them, spoke at the event, and that’s a lot of speechifying (18 people and 4 hours to be exact). But you couldn’t get my bottom off my stark white seat (the Four Seasons petite ballroom was enveloped in white, punctuated only by red and orange flowers) as editor-in-chief Robbie Myers gets such a great crowd. Those at the podium swore a blue streak (Allison Janney and Emma Stone), cried (love ya Octavia Spencer), or were just very excited to be hobnobbing with the big girls (sweet Elle Fanning and Emily Watson). The acceptance speeches at this event are always pretty go-fight-win, but this year my drinking game didn't pay off. I sat by actress-director Julie Delpy and we poured our glasses of wine to the top and were all set to take a sip whenever someone uttered the word “journey.” But it only happened once—these women are way beyond that. Had we chosen to drink at each mention of a bodily function instead, we would have gotten sloshed. Here’s some PG-13 samples of what was said:

Joel McHale (brilliantly funny event emcee): “No red wine in this room! Somewhere in this white room—hiding—is Tilda Swinton and Paul Bettany with their eyes closed. Find them and win a six month subscription to ELLE magazine.” McHale swore he used this joke last year: “Let’s get going before everyone’s menstrual cycles sync up.”

Kristin Wiig: “I feel so much pressure to be funny right now. I have not pooped in four days…I’m going to the drug store later.”

Leslie Mann (to Wiig): “I don’t want to make you jealous. But I just pooped—a lot.”

Robert Pattinson ended his ode to co-star Uma Thurman with: “See Bel Ami, it’s available on Video On Demand…and never make me do a speech again...” (FYI: When he is not a vampire, RPattz mumbles like a toothless geezer.)

Judd Apatow: “I am in comedy, therefore I am dead inside.”

Susan Sarandon: “I went to the Internet to look for a quote and spent 20 minutes on the Shaming Dog site. Go to it, it’s a really funny site.”

Shirley MacLaine: “I have so many people I’d like to thank, but they are all dead. Don’t worry, I will speak to them later.”

Cate Blanchett: (shameless plug) “I use SKII even though they aren’t sponsoring this [event], it is a wonderful product.”

This kicked off a week of Universal monster flick screenings. Bride of Frankenstein premiered at the Pantages in 1935 and Dracula debuted at the Orpheum in 1931. Multiple Oscar winner John Singleton, make-up artist Rick Baker, Universal Chairman Donna Langley, and an original Dracula cast member (102 year-old Carla Laemmle, looking fantastic in a vintage kimono) all gathered excitedly for wine and cheese and to see these gems on the big screen. Afterwards original props were on display in the lobby (those great bats, Frankenstein’s chains). I’d never seen either picture before. It was magic. Bride of Frankenstein is a riot. Both films have been painstakingly restored and in the case of Dracula, this was no small feat as it had suffered a lot of damage. It was all worth it just to see Count Dracula back in action. Langley agreed: “At Universal, we do love our monsters.”

The Pritzker’s opened their fantastic pad for ABT’s annual “Stars Under the Stars” fund-raiser. Once a shuttle took us up, up, up into the hills we were deposited at the front of the house. Guests walking in took cell phone pictures of artwork on the walls including enormous paintings made of living plants as we passed a kid’s playhouse that was bigger than my last apartment on our way to the backyard. Modern art (probably Koons?) was scattered about the lawn like big popcorn poofs in primary colors.

The purpose of the evening? Supporting ABT. These are lovely affairs (I recall another fab evening at Avery and Andy Barth’s home in San Marino). I admire ballet. The work that goes into a dancer’s body, the artistry of a good performance. ABTers put on a show that was both classic and modern. After each performance, one of the Pritzker’s girls (barefoot and in her pjs) would walk up and give the lead ballerina flowers. As night fell, the performances (Don Q, Act III, The Garden of Villandry, Swan Lake/ Act II Pas de Deux, and Twyla Tharp’s Sinatra Suite) got even more magical. “It’s a setting that you simply cannot have in the theatre,” said ABT’s Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie, looking up at the stars.

Still steamy at 7, gals like Christina Hendricks, Padma Lakshmi, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Zooey Deschanel did their best not to wilt, but it was tough. There were great canapés and jewelry maker Saint Vintage passed out bracelets at what was dubbed a “Love Bar.” Organizers got a good crowd which also included Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen. Into the car and on to Entertainment Weekly’s pre-Emmy get together at Fig & Olive. As the cast of The Big Bang Theory graced EW’s current cover, it was only fitting that I ran into Simon Helberg (Howard) at the bar, who grabbed a drink before congregating with castmates Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco. Ginnifer Goodwin, Chris Noth, and Jeremy Davies (sporting hair that looked like it had a run-in with a weed-whacker) also popped by for chocolate parfaits.

On to the Emmy’s where temps on the red carpet hit the 100s and everyone was puddling in their party dresses. I was in the interview room along what is dubbed “Winner’s Walk,” where trophy holders go after they leave the stage at the Nokia Theater. Most excited? Louis CK, who couldn’t even get out a “Hello, how are you?” but blurted out “What’s up? I won two Emmys!” Claire Danes came backstage following her win. “Yea, I’m working my way through the DSM-IV,” she said, referring to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders and her winning roles as Temple Grandin, who is autistic, and Homeland's Carrie Mathison, who is bi-polar). Politics came up with winner Julie Bowen: “I love that both Ann Romney and Michelle Obama said they loved Modern Family.” After Jimmy Kimmel’s last gag, I produced my red Governor’s Ball ticket, went through metal gates a la cattle, hit two checkpoints, then scooted inside the LA Convention Center. I walked in with Tina Fey. When I looked down I noticed she had ditched her heels for fuzzy, cartoon bedroom slippers. Inside, everything was covered in roses. There was a huge elevated stage where different acts performed, an engraving station doing big business as winners brought their trophies over, and a Marich candy station up front. I tried to eat my good Joachim Splichal vittles but kept getting distracted by Kevin Costner at a nearby table. Whatever he has done—and Jessica Lange too, for that matter—he looks well rested (see our October Plastic Surgery issue).

“Arnold! Arnold! Arnold this way!!” the photogs along the carpet hollered at the prem of END OF WATCH when the former Gov hopped out of his SUV. One could almost forget HousekeeperGate. Almost. Councilman Eric Garcetti joined him in a pose or two, (he has a small speaking role in the film), with shoes that needed a little brush up. I kept staring at them. America Ferrera, 50 Cent, Anna Kendrick, Michael Pena and Jake G all followed suit before ducking into Regal LA Live Theaters for the show. It’s a compelling LAPD South Central story but the real story is the relationship between the two cops (played by Gyllenhaal and Pena), only one of whom (Pena) hit the afterparty across the street at the Ritz-Carlton’s WP24. I had to smile, there was a small Napoleon Dynamite reunion as I looked across the crowded restaurant and spotted Pedro and Lafawnduh chatting with one another (aka Efren Ramirez and Shondrella Avery). Who else did I spy? My favorite party hearty/True Blood werewolf – Joe Manganiello. Nice job, Open Road Films. Two interesting movies (still recommending your last flick - Hit & Run).

I smile warmly when I see the usual suspects: Jo Anne Worley and Ann Jeffries, stalwarts who appear at each show. For the opening night of The Book of Mormon, however, the buzz was deafening. Autograph hounds hugged every corner, there was a longer red carpet along Hollywood Boulevard as opposed the 10 foot step-and-repeat in front of the theater’s doors, and traffic slowed to a crawl as people gawked at celebs.

Before the curtain rose, the show’s creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker were across the street having a drink at the W Hollywood’s bar. On their way to the show, TMZ tried to get them to make a Mitt Romney comment as they crossed the boulevard, but to no avail. On the red carpet Kathy Griffin obliged me, “I will be picturing Mitt Romney in every Mormon role,” she said. The crawl started with Garry Marshall and ended with Cher. In between Ke$ha, Heather Graham, Kellan Lutz, Viola Davis, Christina Hendricks, Julie Bowen, Dustin Lance Black, Zoe Saldana, Jason Alexander, Marcia Gay Harden, Idina Menzel, Neil Patrick Harris, Kevin Smith and Marissa Jaret Winokur scooted down the great red way. “I’ve lost so much weight,” Winokur bragged before adding, “I’m starving.” Marshall was just the opposite: “Go to Wood and Vine across the street there, it’s very good.” Viola Davis and husband Julius Tennon were on a date, “What’s a more perfect date night than going to the theatre. You don’t get to go that often in L.A.” Afterwards the theatre folk loaded onto a string of double-decker sightseeing buses and hit Lure Nightclub where Parker and Stone celebrated with yet another drink.

But when I do, I am taking my LEGOS with me.” This quote, from a little boy battling cancer, is still with me after going to the taping of Stand Up To Cancer at the Shrine Auditorium. He stood up when Justin Timberlake introduced him to a huge round of applause. Producer Gwyneth Paltrow and friends got together to raise a ton of dough and support in the search for a cure for the disease. “It’s been fun to roll up my sleeves and produce,” she said. She hit the stage before taping began to rev up the crowd. Forget the applause-o-meter, the biggest response on the gasp-o-meter was when pasty Robert Pattinson ambled onto the stage (then had to be directed off) straight off his Ojai getaway. Taylor Swift sang and got everyone sniffling—even the doctors and researcher who I’d been seated with needed hankies—and Tim McGraw got a standing O for a foot-stomping performance. The phrase “a bull named Fu Manchu” is still stuck in my head. Thanks, Tim. There was a little ‘do in the parking lot following the taping where Modern Family’s Ty Burrell and Eric Stonestreet flashed their wristbands to gain access and have a bite to eat after answering phones for donations. Here’s just a sampling of who was there (Gwynie got a good crowd): Kobe Bryant, Jeremy Renner, Julia Roberts, JustinTimberlake, Samuel L. Jackson, Gabrielle Douglas, Sofia Vergara, Seth Rogen, and Jessica Biel. Some folks pre-taped and weren’t on-hand (ahem Tom Hanks and Matt Damon).
